- With this simple system, the pressure acting directly on the piston would the steering too quickly and too violently; there would be a danger of the steering wheel being pulled from the driver's grasp or of its returning beyond the straight ahead position, thus, a device for slowing down becomes necessary. This is the function of the variable flow regulator.
